In this ultimate guide, we’ll take you through everything you need to know about blooming gel nail tech. We’ll cover what it is, how to use it, and some of the hottest nail trends it can create. So, let’s dive in!

What is Blooming Gel Nail Tech?

Blooming gel nail tech is a type of translucent gel polish that’s formulated to create a blooming effect when combined with other gel polishes. When applied over the nails, it lends a blooming effect to any gel nail-art design, creating a unique pattern of colour. Blooming gel differs from regular nail polish in that it needs to be cured, and it’s different from regular gel polish in that it allows coloured gel polishes to bloom when put on top of it uncured.

The blooming effect is achieved by the chemical reaction between the pigment and base gel layer, which creates the expansion and blooming effect. The effect is mesmerising, creating a watercolour-like pattern on the nails that’s both dreamy and mesmerising.

How to Use Blooming Gel Nail Tech

Using blooming gel nail tech is relatively easy, but it does require some practice to perfect. Here’s a step-by-step guide on how to use blooming gel nail tech to create a blooming effect on your nails.

Step 1: Prep Your Nails

Before you start, you need to prep your nails to ensure that the polish has a smooth base. File and buff your nails as you would for a regular manicure, and apply a base coat to lock in your nail look.

Step 2: Apply the Blooming Gel

Next, apply a thin layer of blooming gel over the base coat. Remember not to cure this layer after applying it.

Step 3: Add the Design

Add your gel polish colors in the design you’re choosing to do. For example, draw your roses, add your colors to create a marble or smoke effect, or your white to help create your smoky quartz. While your blooming gel layer is still wet, you want to drop a different color on top of the wet layer in whichever area of the nail you want it to be most concentrated in. Typically, you want to pick a color that pops out against your base.

Step 4: Wait for the Blooming Effect

Watch as the colors start to spread and settle, creating the blooming effect. The longer you wait, the more expanded and faded the edges will be, creating a unique pattern of color. Once you’re satisfied with the look of how the color bloomed, then use an LED lamp to cure the nail. You can repeat the process with additional layers of blooming gel until you get your desired results.

Step 5: Apply a Topcoat

Once you’ve achieved the desired effect, seal it all in with a topcoat. Applying a thin layer of clear gel will smooth everything out before adding any other nail art or a topcoat. To complete your look, you can add some type of gem on top.

Blooming Gel Nail Tech Ideas

Blooming gel nail tech is a versatile product that can be used to create an array of different organic-looking effects. Here are some of the hottest nail trends you can create with blooming gel nail tech.

Snake Skin Effect

One of the most popular trends is the snake skin effect. To achieve this, start with a base shade and apply a clear blooming gel over the top. Before curing, start creating the snake shape using a small brush. The small, painted-on lines will disperse into blotchier shapes, which then form a snakeskin design.

Marble Nails

Another popular trend is marble nails. Blooming gel is a great tool to use to get the abstract swoosh effects of marble. Over a layer of blue glass, blend white on a coat of blooming gel to create a marble sky effect. Cure it and add another layer of blue glass. You can then add a chrome design or iridescent overlay to add to the marble vibe.

Aura Nails

The aura trend is all about expressing your emotions and the aura that surrounds you. Pick the colors that match your aura and place a large or small blob of color onto the nail using a dotting tool. Then, over a layer of wet blooming gel, layer multiple colors for bold designs.

Tortoiseshell Nails

The tortoiseshell trend is another trend that’s doing the rounds thanks to blooming gel. Start with a base shade and apply a clear blooming gel over the top. Before curing, start creating the croc shape using a small brush. You’ll soon see that the small, painted-on lines will disperse into blotchier shapes, which then form a tortoiseshell design.

Psychedelic Nails

The psychedelic nail can be achieved by combining various techniques. Often vibrant hues are preferred to create various blotches and bloom effects using blooming gel as the base. Chrome powders are used over some sections of the nail to create a holographic or iridescent effect, and finally, gem embellishments or textured dots are created using Builder in a Bottle.

It’s a versatile product that can be used to create all sorts of designs, from snakeskin to marble nails, and everything in between. Whether you’re a nail tech enthusiast or just looking to try something new, blooming gel nail tech is a must-try. Blooming Gel- I’ve seen a lot of posts for recommendations for this and thought I would share this in one of my Quick Tip Videos. I always recommend looking at the system/s you already stock- as demonstrated in this video most of the time your base coat or even your top coats may create this effect with your gel polish colours. Not all systems work the same but it’s worth a try before investing in an additional product or range of products.
