How to figure what to charge – the basics:

Your first step with all nail and beauty services is to find out what your competitors charge then set this number aside and look at your costs, remember costs include more than just the costs used to do a set of nails for example, but also things like room hire, electricity costs if you pay the salon bills, staffing etc.

Once you know how much you are paying in fixed costs and overheads a month then build some calculations based on fixed amounts of nail or salon services for direct treatment costs. Do mock-ups for different amounts of different services, ideally based off how many of each service you could realistically sell each month.

This should let you see how many and what combination of service sales allows you to break even and set targets and key performance indicators for monthly sales to turn a profit.

One idea now you have an approximation of the basic cost per service is to decide your markup based on what your local competitors charge and your pricing strategy (premium or value), no matter what you need to differentiate from your competitors. This could be by price, location, or branding (and perceptions of quality). It’s worth remembering this is a ball-park figure and well be refines as you trade.

Why your beauty job is about more than treatment prices:

Beauty is not just about the physical appearance. It is also about confidence and inspiration. The service you provide to your customer goes beyond just nail price or treatment price. It’s important to help them feel good in their own skin and confident in the decisions they make.

So we know that it’s not just about the price. Your clients want to feel confident and beautiful, and we want to help you achieve that.

You may work in collaboration with a salon and have a team of stylists who are trained in all aspects of beauty, from haircuts and color to makeup, nails and more working together to add value and compliment each other as a premium service. You may also offer premium styling services to give a client nail colors that go with their entire wardrobe, always be on the look-out on ways to exceed your clients expectations and break the mould. If you do this then you can always charge more for your services, afterall you get what you pay for. The saying is you buy cheap, you buy twice!
